From Andy Harchenko To All 10 February 1998

How are you, All?

An idea appeared here about subj. Because subj is completely speckish, so
why don’t we say do something like Power Demo Compo. Those. demos in this compo
will be written for a computer with 512kb+turbo memory. You can even use GS (but that's another question). And how long can you sit in these 128kb, just like on the PC
it turns out (about 640kb). Moreover, 512 are quite common, and with the advent of demos (and subsequently games), people themselves will be interested in making them. Well, judge for yourself what an ordinary user has now with his 512kb, except for copying disks or listening to MODs, he has nothing else to do. And then
staying in 128kb imho is also not an option.
In general, I would like to hear the opinions of others on this matter, especially the organizers
subj.

With maximum respect, Andy Harchenko.

The idea is pure crap, don’t be offended - but that’s how it is.
Why are demos made on speccy? Not to compete with PC/Ammy...
But to implement hardcore things on the standard configuration of a regular 128
Spectrum.

For such demos a special compo is always made: wild demo compo.
You can represent anything you want there. I don’t know if it will be on FT, but the fact
is that standard competition should be on standardSubject:
128/~71000tpi/1fdd/AY.

Yes, you are of course right, but I’m more likely saying that it’s time to support Spec’s config software
otherwise why would we need all these bells and whistles if we still remain in the 1986 conference.

AH> That is. demos in this component will be written for a computer with 512kb+turbo memory.
And it is possible for 4MB x 21 MHz. The same Spectrum screen, 128th machine plus
RAM-Disk with a capacity of 640k, working like a regular TR-DOS disk through #3D13, but at
a much higher speed, without disk errors and without braking on
positioning.
Do you need to set AY ? I’ll put it specifically so that there won’t be any
questions.
And the first debugging can be done on any 128 Spectrum, with brakes, of course,
and then tested on a Sprinter. Imho, many people will have it before the summer.

How do you like this twist?

No, according to the general rules, the program should be written on a configuration 1.5/2
times larger than the one for which it is intended. In other words, you need to do it on
more powerful machines, so as not to “carve a cave in the rock with a file” (c)
Inforcom book.

Damn, this is cool, I wish I could code it! And if there is also a GS (512kb Ram), then finally everyone will fly away! This can be done...

OFCOZ, though sometimes in a demo it’s difficult to do without OUT (#FD),A, although rarely.
