Are the demos frivolous?...I'm hesitating

Hi, All!
Hello, Vyacheslav!

< Isn’t what’s next off-topic again? ;) administration, Sorry! >

In theory, they should stop spreading ;), but no one
will forbid anyone to copy them on the same FT'98 to their floppy disks
(like they agreed to put compers in the corridor) and if you
bring them there, that’s exactly what will happen :) Of course it’s true about networks, but in addition to FIDO
and the Internet there is also ZXNET, and according to my calculations, every 5 are connected to the networks, now
a living spektrumist :)
Now, as for traders...for them, if the program covers the entire disk, in theory it should
disappear or cost ridiculously little, i.e. the cost of a floppy disk + the cost
of recording on it + up to 15% (for trade), if more expensive, then they are already in conflict with
the law.
Commercial and frivolous programs should not yet be on the same disk in a heap.
So you can ask people in the regions to signal the facts of illegal
sales and pin down piratesfines through the courts, but of course you are unlikely to want
to bother with this, but if all users know where they can
get freeware for free copying (and where to find out, if not from the author),
then they are unlikely to buy at all and the pirates will be left hanging.
I liked your other idea... we need to somehow get rid of the “wild
traders” (who do not have access to any network or not maintaining relations with anyone from those who have access to the network), if a “wild user” is
still back and forth (he even reads the electronic press) - although he is also a potential
pirate ;(, then a “wild trader” today generally “doesn’t fit into any gate”,
it’s not 1987 in the yard :)
If everyone follows some rules, then it will be better for everyone : for users, soft makers, demo makers, intro makers/restaurants, publishers, hard makers, and traders! We all need to be civilized and feel
ourselves as one people, with general rules of “good manners”.

> The best example is the demos from Inlights'9x. There is nowhere more frivolous, and for
them they take money from the crowd ;)
But I am tormented by doubts about this... Only the author himself, his heirs...or time can declare frivolous a program
and time ;)
And we, the organizers of FT'98, had a discussion about this - we seemed to
come to the conclusionthat you can freely copy only works that have won places (received
cash prizes), as well as those whose authors will make them friar at the festival
or give them as a gift to FT'98.
Floppy disks with the same works will be sold, but with FT'98 stickers, it seems
so, if I got something wrong, let the fellow organizing committee members correct me ;)

AS> But I am tormented by doubts about this... a prog can be declared frivolous

IMHO, the rules of E'9x warned that all demos will be posted on the internet
for free distribution. And if anyone disagrees with this, they should
warn the organizers.

AS> And we, the organizers, FT'98 had a discussion about this - it seems

Yeah, there will still be prizes :)

AS> as well as those whose authors make them frivolous at the festival or

Inconsistency: the demos will be frivolous, but only
FanTop organizers will distribute them?

With hot Hello, Slava!

From Max Romanoff To All 9 January 1998

Vyacheslav is that you?
...why were you telling Andrew Savichev about whether the demos are frivolous?...I'm hesitating?

VM> Inconsistency: the demos will be frivolous, but only FanTop organizers will distribute them
VM>?

insanity, really?

Good Luck...

... Turn of the telly, you know it's bad for your eyes.

From Dmitry Grigoryev To All 10 January 1998

Something like this, but no one will run after the authors and ask their permission.
This will simply be announced, and those who want to declare their work commercial
must _themselves_ warn the organizers.

VM> Inconsistency: the demos will be frivolous, but they will be distributed
VM> only by the FanTop organizers?

Not only. We will (if we do) distribute _branded_ Fantop
collections, souvenir ones, so to speak. The rest can do anything with free software
that is not prohibited by law, but cannot use the symbols/stickers
of the Festival. It is very likely (if we can provide this technically) that everyone
of the works will be able to freely and completely free of charge directly at the Festival.

VM> With warm greetings,
VM> Slava!

Sincerely, Dmitry (OLDMAN).
