FIDO on Spectrum?

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

Hello Oleg !

In principle, it is possible. Practically - now, it seems, there is no such software yet. Although, it’s better to ask St. Petersburg SpbZxNet about this, they often appear here.
OD> If this is possible, what is needed for this?
So, why does Fido need it?

Good luck! Evgeny.

From Igor Gruzdev To All 2 July 1997

Maybe. As a user of pisishnoy/amiga any other :) bbs.

OD> It seems that I understand that this is possible... If this is possible, what is needed for

Modem.

With all sorts of regards and wishes.

A disk drive connected through the TR-DOS “system” and my T02 terminal. Well, and an internal hayes modem, of course. The software was thrown into the echo. All
necessary documentation is included. I worked like this for a year, then switched to IBM,
it’s a pity for my eyes...
The only thing is that it’s a terminal, not a mailer. So the city must
have a BBS to access FIDO. Any, no special computers or
non-standard modems are needed...

George

Hmm... I certainly understand that brevity is the sister of talent, but on the other hand -
every family has its black sheep...

Explain your idea in more detail, if a modem - where can I get information about how to connect it
to the Spectrum and what terminal can be used and so on...

To say that you need a terminal and a modem - I can also say... I would like more
detailed information... However...

With respect Oleg

:) I’ll tell you now.

By for questions about programs - to Misha Kondratyev (2:5030/362.1)

Well... Still, it seems to me that the proposed version of the subject below assumes
individual use Fido from Spectrum. If there are quite a lot of such willing Spectrumists (well, at least ten to fifteen people, IMHO), then there is
the point of organizing a small network on Spectrums, connected through a gate to Fido/i-Net and other delights, and exchanging with each other on other, more
simple modems. More detailed information about other Sinclair modems
(xtr-modem/vicomm/c-dos) can be obtained either here (for example, from Dmitry Grigoriev
or from representatives of SpbZxNet (in the from field there is (812/...).

Hello, All!

Maybe it will be useful to someone, I repeat the diagram for connecting an internal
Hayes-compatible modem to a zx-spectrum computer.

It remains to make a few notes.

For the signals of slot A21...A28 inclusive, you need to apply logic 1, placing a resistor from 1 to 15 kOhm on
them.
In the Spectrum it is necessary tear off the /nmi pin on the z80 and feed it from
the above circuit.
Also in the zx you need to use firmware with a corrected byte
responsible for nmi processing. For example, in 2.95 firmware for Scorpio
this has already been done.
The spec requires at least 128 kilograms of memory.
The supply voltages shown in the diagram do not necessarily have to be present,
must be looked at on the modem.
The same applies to unspecified slot signals. We need to look
in each specific case.
It is necessary to apply an inverted reset to pin B2 of the connector, that is
you will need another inverter element.
Sometimes you have to pull up the /IORQ4 signal by +5V
Alsoit is necessary to block the ports that intersect with the specified ones.
On the modem itself, the jumpers are set to COM1 IORQ4

Well, that seems to be all. Request a program for is-dos (terminal) from the author of the scheme
(Michael Kondratyev, 2:5030/362.1)

I’ll also add that the USRobotics 14400 modem from 1994 works most preferably and without glitches on the Spectrum. In any case, a person from the Spectrum
is climbing on my bbs and downloading it under the cps 1000 on a zip archive. ;)
