FDI format need!

VY> Please send a description of the FDI format.

FDI is also not a panacea. If you are going to make a standard disk image format,
then let it completely describe the data at the MFM level. True, the length of such an image will be oh-oh ;) About three times longer than TRD/FDI.

Warm greetings, Slava!

22 Oct 97 12:18, Vladimir Yudin communicated with Vyacheslav Mednonogov about {FDI format
need!}:

VY> 0016 F5 03 A1 Field

It’s you who submit #F5 when formatting (we’re talking, of course, only about VG93), and the
controller writes something similar to #A1

VY> The total result is a megabyte - one and a half times larger than TRD and FDI.

I wanted to say that the new format should completely replicate the MFM encoding,
i.e. Each bit will have to be encoded with 2 bits (and sometimes three). Total multiply
by 2 more.

VY> But with it you can do everything that you can do with a real disk. At least format
VY> without sectors.

Define images of protected and non-standard disks, etc.

VY> ²All: Well, is it worth creating another format or not?

Fuck knows :(

VY> Yes, by the way, is there a command for reading an entire track on IBM? A
VY> then you can’t transfer a disk from the Spectrum to such a format.

IMHO, it exists, but but back - no :(((

MM>> The 8272 does not have such a command.

VM> The 8272a should have it (there are many new commands) - after all, somehow

VM> 2VY&MM\ if necessary, I can clarify this question.

It would be very interesting to know!

What is this for? Emulate decoding of information read

03 Nov 97 23:01, Andrey Khristov reported by Vyacheslav Mednonogov about {FDI format
need!}:

AK> No need to quarrel, hot Estonian guys.
AK> There is such a program - FDA.

I actively use it. All previous non-standard formats were described and copied in
it. The only inconvenient thing is that you can’t describe the entire disk format, but only by
individual tracks - so you sit like ... and enter a description of 160 tracks :))

AK> It can remove not only data zones, but also accurately determines
AK> the sizes of all GAPs, can read and copy “sector within a sector”
AK> and many other bells and whistles...

But how? HOW?

Warm greetings, Slava!

need!}:

AK> What it means in translation:
AK> Data transfer between the drive and the system.
AK> The FDD controller reads the entire contents of the cylinders from the index marker
AK> to the EOT marker (end of the track).

a) there is no EOT marker :) (here EOT is the number of readable sets)
b) the sectors are also located from the index hole ;)

AK> For everyone: If stone 8272 was invented by the Russians, I would believe that
AK> the Russian description is more accurate than the English one.

b) and you are the English description to the end finish reading:

READ A TRACK

This command is similar to READ DATA Command except that the entire data
field is read continuously from each of the sectors of a track. Immediately
after encountering the INDEX HOLE, the FDC starts reading all data fields on
the track as continuous blocks of data. If the FDC finds an error in the ID
or DATA CRC check bytes, it continues to read data from the track. The FDC
compares the ID information read from each sector with the valua stored in the
IDR, and sets the ND flag of Status Register 1 to 1 (high) if there is no
comparison. Multi-track or skip operations are not allowed with this command.
