From the description of MS 5311:
Duration of the index pulse (ID L) 2-5.5 ms
Distance between pulses 200+-3 ms (i.e. rotation speed disk
300+-4.5 rpm)
This signal becomes reliable at least 400 ms after the start
of the magnetic disk drive

But it’s interesting if we combine the idea of protection used in the ZXF with
“two-hole”, i.e. calculate the distance between holes accurate to the byte?
The advantages are obvious: there is no need to tighten up the drive speed resistor, there is no need to
scratch the disks, if necessary, the second hole is sealed with tape and a
normal disk is obtained.
The disadvantages are the same: when using 3.5" floppy disks, you will have to glue in
a second magnet :(, the second hole will need to be positioned so that it is close
to the first one, or fell into the intersector space, otherwise such a disc cannot
be read or written down :(
However, from the point of view of non-copyability and manufacturability, such protection will give
100 points ahead of any other.
By the way, it is better to drill the second hole with a drill or punch it with a sharpened tube -
there will be no burrs or deformation.
ps\ I have already introduced everyone authors with drills in their hands :)))

This was done in the Phantom protector. It works out simply: in pure memory
you write push of all registers, then call 3d13 with positioning on the track we are on, then pop of all registers, etc. Two minutes of work in STS.
From Max Romanoff → To All 28 September 1997
VM> Regarding the Amiga: it will copy -10 rpm, but not +10 rpm? Or in both cases, the length of the track will not be exactly repeated?
In short, I’ll explain:
Amiga can copy in 2 ways:
1. Read the entire track into memory, and then write. Because reading
of the track is at the lowest level (MFM), then it is possible to copy any
protections based on left formats...
This method is fast, but cannot copy tracks with a short
length... No, it copies them, but the length of the track becomes
standard for the speed at which the disk is spinning at which
is written...
why?
Explanation: When reading a track, the hardware is synchronized via MFM, and
reads the entire track. Because Hardware allows a variation in the speed
of the drive, THEN it, in principle, reads in a wide range of bitrates.
As a result, the memory contains an image of an MFM track of a certain
length (read). A because MFM recording occurs with a standard
birtrate, then during recording extra 'empty bits' will be written or
even a sector will be eaten (if the track has been stretched)...
As a result, we get an identical track, but its length
changes in the usual direction. Which is controlled by the program.
2. Use a small external piece of hardware that allows
to copy *DIRECTLY* from one drive to another (bypassing memory,a
means preserving *BCE* temporary recording characteristics)...
The role of the computer in this case is to track the indexes
synchronization of both drives (the circuit confuses 3 signals with each other:
RDDATA - WRDATA, SEL2 - WriteEnable, DiskChange - INDEX... On the left is a
computer connector, on the right is a disk drive...), and when they match (plus,
minus a few bytes) - writing on one is enabled, and reading on
another, and the track is written directly from one to another disk...
Disk drive speed comp. equalizes by short-term removal
of the MOTOR signal...
This copying method copies absolutely all protections (except
scratched ones)... Including non-standard MFM + multi-speed
recording...
disadvantage This method is terribly slow (after all
before copying a track (EACH) it is necessary to combine indexes...
and the greater the difference in speeds, the more time is needed)...
This can be improved by synchronizing both drives from one
quartz, but I have not tested this...
However, this method is still not suitable for duplicating
disks... perhaps for one or two copies of some major
prone to self-destruction, or for yourself...
It should be noted that theoretically, it is possible to make
copies of tracks with different lengths (even to master tracks with a length of
1kb or something like that, which is impossible anywhere except the Amiga)...
The essence of the method is the basis of the work of disk hardware on the Amiga.
For those who are not familiar, I will only say that the hardware writes to the disk
prepared MFM data... And if among this data there is only
a certain part encoded by MFM (a pair of sectors with fields), and
the rest will be 00, then VG93 will not be able to count such zero MFM
data, because they lack the synchronization required by VG93...
As a consequence, we can assume that the length of the track will be equal
to the length of useful information...
This theory has not been tested in practice, if anyone checks it, let
me know about the results...
p.s. turned it down, right? :)
Good Luck...

First, the glued disk, when the magick hangs, is pressed a second time on the
normal disk, or you can simply subtract everything from zero with STS track.
It’s very good if, when the magic is triggered, something tricky hits the stack
that is specially placed there, then this method will not help. On firmware tr-dos 5.05 by RST#7, by holding down some buttons, the stack
is forcibly reinstalled during Magic, and this trick with the stack
is bypassed. Such a ROM is rare among people.

Maybe it looks like the truth.
Here I also remembered about the protection against magic /in Turn/:
If anyone had the proprietary version, you noticed that the disk there spins
during the entire game (!). This was done to poll for the presence of a disk and
to prevent it from being replaced with a blank one (took out the disk - the game was reset). But here, too, there were smart people. They pressed the Magic button and, holding it, changed the disk, after which the game was safely reset. These are the cunning and resourceful hackers we have :)))))
