Emul+Midem

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Max Lanskih To All 2 January 1998

Hello, Vladimir!

Is it possible to make the emul work with the PC modem like
with Spekovsky? Otherwise it’s kind of crap, it’s interesting to look at all the variety of Spectrum terminals at work.

OK. Send us the ZX modem ports.

Sincerely

Hayes, connected according to M. Kondratiev's scheme:
1) #0EF-#7EF - with an open NMI key (IRQ4 of the modem goes to the NMI of the computer).
2) #8EF-#FEF - with a closed one (there is always 1 on the NMI pin of the computer connector).

Good luck! Evgeny.

Thank you, of course, but if you think that for emulation it is enough
to know the range of addresses, then you are very mistaken. :)

PS: How is NMI used?
Best regards

Eeeee... What else do you need? Bits? But, after all, this is a standard modem, with which the pisyuk itself can work. You take, for example, you catch a call to port #0EF in the emulator, and you make a call to some
FOSIL driver, or even directly to the register-port of COM port #3F8 (for COM1).
Similarly: #1EF - #3F9; #2EF - #3FA; ...
Although, you are right - I didn’t write emulators, and therefore I could be wrong...

VY> PS: How is NMI used?
Well, the same as on the PC - depending on how you program it. :))
But, according to the established tradition in the terminal structure ( :))) ) the modem sends NMI
as soon as it has a byte that it wants to “give” to the computer
(“interrupt when data is ready”, it seems). In principle, you can do both
“by readiness for transmission”, and “by BREAK state”, and for a couple of other cases...
By the way, it is precisely because of the use of interruption that speeds
approximated to pisyukov are achieved...

As I understand it, this only works on ROM? where is the glitch with processing
NMI fixed?
