CASH
ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»
From Alex Gofman → To All 26 March 1998
Hello All !
Here many people are interested in what cache is for the Spectrum. Here you get it :)
Cache is a static RAM (573RU10 or RU17), which replaces the ROM when reading from
port #FB (251) and is disabled when reading from port #7B (123). If anyone needs
the diagram, I'll throw it in the echo.
$$$ With best wishes ... Alex

Hmm. What about conflict? #FB - printer port. The standard ROM-48 contains IN commands (#FB). For example, at the address #0F0C
And in machines with an LPrint-III interface, generally IN (#FB) replaces
the standard ROM with the LPrint-III ROM, IN (#7B) disables the LPrint-III ROM and turns on
the standard ROM.
By the way, not from LPrint-III are the legs of this cache growing?-)
Best wishes! Michael KLUG

Everything is correct. You have to have one thing - either LPrinter-III or cache. At
The Pentagon there is a panel for RF2 in which the printer driver is hardwired and everything happens
as you described above, but many people don’t use it - that’s where they put the RUSHKI,
preliminarily resoldering a couple of wires. I can’t say anything more about the Pentagon because... I have Leningrad-1, but it’s almost as easy to attach a cache to it as to the
Pentagon :) in general, it can be attached to any computer.

And ask the authors :) The benefit is that the programs work faster in the lower
memory, you can write there a copy of the ROM with changed constants or a monitor
for hacking the program - who likes what? Now there are programs that use this cache, but
you need to look for them from the owners of the Pentagons, because The cache came from them (at the Pentagon
you need a minimum of modifications to install the cache - insert the RUSHK into the socket and
solder a couple of wires). In my opinion, it’s worth installing such a thing on your computer -
it’s better to have everything that is supported by coders to enjoy their creations :)
The diagram will come a little later.

Why is it needed for Spectrum and what software is it supported?

16Kb of RAM in the address space of the processor,
IMHO it’s not even bad.

And how is this compatible with SD ?
Can you post the schematic?;)

It seems compatible with SD, because There is only one cache on the Spectrum and it is addressed as I
described.
I threw out the diagram, if anyone did not receive it or did not understand it, write with soap.

TO> Hello!
TO> It wouldn’t be bad to look at this device...;+)
Yes, it’s definitely not bad to look at, but you also need to listen.
This raised a couple of questions:
-is it like cache on a PC or just additional RAM?
-if it’s like on a PC, then maybe someone can throw in TR-DOS, which works with this cache
And also in A radio amateur once wrote about a new version of TR-Dos that uses
memory greater than 128k as a cache and for storing residents. Maybe someone has this miracle?
Happy!

I already threw out the diagram - if you write anything, write with soap
RR> Yes, it’s definitely not bad to look at, but you also need to listen.
RR> A couple of questions arose for this:

No, it’s not like on a PC - it’s extra. memory instead of ROM

Dear, look for such a thing - you want to see it :)
