What are you doing here? (2 Tim Yunaev)

ZXNet echo conference «zx.spectrum»

From Andrew Savichev To All 29 January 1998

Hello, Tim!
Our correspondence has already acquired the character of an off-topic and therefore let me ask you: “If you are so sure that you are right, then what are you doing here
in zx.spectrum?” Who are you, pisishnik, amishnik, who? ...IMHO
not a spektrumist. In this case, keep your “deep” ideas to yourself.
We haven’t seen anything like that here...no one is forcing anyone here with a lasso!
But we won’t allow anyone to trample on our ideals!
Do you have any sensible suggestions for the benefit of the Spectrum - express them,
no?...good riddance!
>
>On the Internet, no one forces you to pump such volumes (by the way, modems
>at 14400 are dying out like a class, and at 28800 megabytes it takes 5 minutes to download).
It’s people like you who are dying out, but people like me, they will work until
they die a physical death!
>
> AS> So Spectrum is the IDEAL network machine for today!
>Or about FIDO? Is there a full-fledged FIDO software (mailer, tosser) on the Spectrum?
>Have you tried reading mail on it? Even in 42 characters per line mode? This is a
>nightmare.
There are modes with a large number of characters per line!

>It is almost impossible to type Russian text on a standard keyboard at
>an acceptable speed.
>TCP/IP support has not yet been implemented by anyone, imho, it is almost impossible to implement it at 48k
>almost impossible, at 128 - difficult.
>About which onesnetwork capabilities are you talking about?
If we are talking about the Internet, UUCP is enough for me! and Spectrum, I think, should also be enough for now.

> AS> (and therefore home) At first, homes had a telephone, then AOH,
> AS> then a computer with a modem. So, Spectrum + modem is much more attractive than anything else. Of course, it takes effort
> AS> to make this obvious to more people than it is now.
>
>Sorry, this is nonsense. And the real one. A computer with continuous RAM less than 256k
is practically not suitable for working on the Internet. Just ask people
>how difficult it is to implement (especially on ASMA!) a full-fledged TCP/IP protocol
>stack. Plus, immediately forget about www - text mode only, which sucks in our time.
For you it may suck (since you and people like you are “cool guys”, but for
ordinary people it’s quite acceptable!)

> AS> there is something to learn and there is something and where to assert yourself! What else does a creative person need? :) After all, there are no storms here that rage
> AS> in the oceans of the IBM PC. Here a person can quickly “feel the results
> AS> of his efforts” :)
>
>You see, this is needed by a very small circle of people.
I’ll tell you again: “I grew up from the Spectrum” - go for a walk! Establish yourself in other
worlds, I’m not saying that this isimpossible. Perhaps...try to put the Gates empire under the belt, or "write to the table", telling everyone
that if you had time/money/connections...etc. “You really should”...I’ve seen and re-seen people like that in my lifetime, but to sit here cross-legged, contemptuously
looking around at the “world” and teaching others “how to live”? - so keep in mind that people here are
different...and not just “green boys”!
>
> >> Because this is a teenager's car - a person is "inferior" (sorry)
> >> he may hit himself again painfully! There’s probably no need to explain why?!?
> AS> She’s not a teenager!
>
>Alas. Can you name a couple of people over 18 years of age who would have only a Spectrum at home
and no other computer, while having _real_ opportunities
>to purchase one?
Don’t distort!...I know different...3-year-old children are seated in front of an IBM PC,
so “the computer business is war!” and everyone prepares their soldiers
"from the cradle", my children (although rather grandchildren) will sit at the Superspectrum!
Otherwise, why would I, a 37-year-old "kid" hang around here.

>With, alas, few people need fantastic capabilities, and with a price that is 5
>times higher than the real price of these capabilities.
You want to say that the Sprinter board can be made for$20?
Well...how much can we bet that you won’t?
>
> AS> awesomely promoted, etc., etc.
>
>Awesome - these are five articles in this echo???????
And here are the “five articles”, we were talking about the Spectrum, and as you know it
has been “promoted” since the late seventies!
>
> AS> ;). Writers don’t have such communication...because how can 10 million
> AS> people communicate, how can they know each other?
>
>Hmm. Sorry, it smacks of childhood. :)
>Adults communicate with each other not at all because one of them is a “pisishnik”, “Spectrumist”, “Amishnik”, etc.
I can communicate with “pisishniks” and “Amishniks” about anything, but not
about the Spectrum! When they start to “water” it and “trample” it, I want to
remember my military youth and drive “straight to the right” over the pumpkin.
