Lots of groups are writing great software, everyone’s getting to grips with the Amiga, and they’re getting ready for the new FUNTOP’98 competition!Letter summary: Viator from the AVALON/RUSH/ASM group writes to his colleague VBI in December 1997. The long silence was due to work on the ‘Hallucinations in Opera’ demo for the ZX Spectrum, which is finally ready. Things are buzzing on the scene: groups are writing software, FUNTOP'98 is coming up, and there are fresh demos and discs to swap. He’s getting to grips with the Amiga alongside the Spectrum, and VBI invites him to join the group. On the envelope is an explanation of why the parcel was returned: an error in the postal address.

Sorry for the delay in replying. I haven’t been replying to you or many other Spectrum users of late. I simply had a choice to make: either write programmes or deal with correspondence and organisational matters. As you can see, I chose the former... But now, at last, we can present our creation to everyone — ‘HALLUCINATIONS IN OPERA’. For more detailed information about the demo and what’s been going on with our AVALON, read the ‘OPERA.txt’ file included with the demo. Actually, things are going smoothly for us! We’re writing programs and getting to grips with the Amiga.
And what are you up to? Any plans? What’s the fate of the ‘EXCITATION’ demo you wrote about?
You say there’s no good news, but in my opinion, there’s plenty of good news at the moment. Many groups are writing good software, everyone’s getting to grips with the Amiga together, and they’re preparing for the new FUNTOP’98 competition!
So there’s no need to get downhearted! Write new programmes and music. Delight everyone with your next works!
We’re still a bit short on new stuff at the moment, as there hasn’t been time to swap files. With E97, we have the following: POWER UP, ACID REVOLUTION, THE CUBE, RISE, SPIRIUS, FRACTALS, ABYSS, RAGE, PHRENETIC, SHIT4BRAINS, BINARY_LOVE, REALACTION, NOUMENON, BIZARRE, ECSTATIC, EXCESS, THE USUAL SUSPECTS (SUX!).
There’s still no ‘ZX-FORMAT 6’ or ‘SPECTROFONS 23-24’, but there is ‘ZX-POWER 2’ and ‘DEPTH #1’. I can send you anything you need. There’s some other new stuff too, so drop me a line.
By the way! Fancy joining Amazing Soft Making? Or how about becoming a user and coder on the AMIGA? We’ve got loads of software for the Amiga coming in now, and even literature in Russian. We’ll soon be starting to write programs for both the ZX and the A! So, think about it... The AMIGA is sort of a continuation of the SPECCY at a higher level. AMIGA RULEZ! BUT SPECCY ALIVE FOREVER!

I sent this parcel a week ago from Kyiv, and when I got home I was surprised to find it on my desk along with a parcel for SQUIZER from X-PROJECT. It turned out that the post office, with its constant incompetence, had changed the address format only for the CIS, and for Ukraine they’ll change it, I think, only after New Year... In short, I filled in the address incorrectly. But tomorrow I’ll send this parcel again and, since you’re reading this, you’ve received it... :-)
