It’s PARACELS^EI, as always. The brilliant series *8mm* starring Nicolas Cage is just finishing on cable TV, and Diman’s making me write this letter. :(
I’ll keep it short, as usual ;)
I watched JAM by DR. IMHO; they deserved first place at CC'999, but only because their demo has effects and good design.
However – BLAST – ANAMNESIS, completely devoid of design and effects, won with its ugly animation. Where’s the justice in that???!!! Our PC CODER PYRODEX actually laughed, saying that the 63 BITS III demo deserved first place, and you can trust him – he knows these things, just like SENAT and SAIROOS, better than any of those ‘rotten experts’ and SERZH types who were at CC.
I nearly had a heart attack when I read in the text about CC’999 how some bloke was absolutely raving about C₂H₅OH 4K! “It’s SO cool, and it’s the first one to use music.” Well, SERZH is just brilliant!... “Etc., etc. Good heavens! The scene is ruled by unenlightened pioneers! They’ve probably never even heard of REFRESH or GOA. That’s the rotten ground on which all these SERZHs and FAKE MASTERS grew and developed into the best of the best, and they’re taking advantage of it.
FLYING came to his senses and made a demo using effects, and look what he got for it. 2nd place out of 3!!! It’s just as well that DR have an idea, otherwise their demo wouldn’t have caught anyone’s attention. But just think: JAM has STRETCH, FLARES, 3D FLAT and a few other things, plus brilliant (albeit a bit rough in places) graphics, decent music and excellent design. Now tell me: what from that list is in ANAMNESIS??? Answer — NOTHING! Ha! FAKE MASTERS have ruined all those advantages with their idiotic animation. I’m lost for words.
I don’t like to swear, but right now I simply can’t keep quiet. EXPLODER, whom we recently visited, shares the same opinion.
Max, I read your letter and was surprised: is your demo with ALK going to be built entirely on animation? God willing, ALK will be able to talk you out of it. After all, he can code some pretty decent FX. Why are you making him stoop to the level of the FAKE MASTERS?
And another thing: as an artist, I dislike ANAMNESIS twice over — it has NO hand-drawn graphics. It has absolutely no graphics at all! (-L-LAME!)
Actually, our coders should be writing all this, but, firstly, they’re busy with the demo right now, and, secondly, you’d probably find it interesting to read some swear words ;)
Right, let’s forget about the DEMOS with CC! Moving on.
Max, the image never made it to DOXYCON'99. You can read about this in D-MAN’s letter on the disc. In light of this, we have a request for you. Please publish (preferably via email) my SCREEN from PARADOX'99. The image is called ‘FIGHT THE FUTURE’ :) It was originally intended specifically for DOXY, as it’s a bit weak for Russian parties, but there’s nothing to be done now — it’s no good for the demo, so I have to submit it to PARADOX. :(

I’m really swamped with work on NAPALM at the moment (though I’m enjoying it), so the GFX for your DEMO isn’t ready yet. BUT! I can promise 100% that the little one you commissioned will simply -RULEZ-. Anyway, see you soon. It’s all a bit more complicated with a pregnant woman. Oh well, I’ll get a bit kinky with it, and everything will be fine.
Pilot-34 came out the other day. It’s been ages since I’ve had such a laugh :))) ZX-PILE’s drudgery is yet another masterpiece. That ad about charging rechargeable batteries alone is worth it. Only a schizoid like VEL could come up with such nonsense! Anyway, had a laugh at a few other things too.
By the way, where’s BORN DEAD #11!!!
I’ll only be exhibiting at CAFE if I draw something really worth looking at, and I won’t be exhibiting at DI HALT at all!
Right now I’m eagerly awaiting a -ZERO- colour monitor from SNAKE2 / REMEDY. He’s buying a PC soon and has promised me his COLOUR TV MONITOR. SNAKE2 RULEZ FOREVER!
COLOUR is the only thing I’m missing right now for complete happiness. If I get a COLOUR MONITOR, all sorts of DIVER and HERO themes (FIL / ATS) — RULEZ. I respect him :) and will try [this] in my GFX CONVERTERS in 2000! Immodest, but honest!
