"Speccy Rulez!" — D-Man Writes to Samara After FT'98

Hello M.M.A. & all Samara! We got your letter — thanks for the photo. We're sending one too, with you, ALK and Paracels in it. (Sorry. See the P.S. at the end of the letter!) Congratulations on 3rd place at FT'98. No need to apologize so much — we didn't place in the demo compo, and to hell with it. It's not your fault people like anime. Though honestly, after the demo compo, after watching the other demos, we still expected a prize — but apparently not our fate; next time we'll be smarter. And our demo was made in a crazy rush — exactly two months, no time for cool design. :-( Well, forget it. Congratulations again on 3rd place. At least Neverland got something — good enough. By the way, if it's not a secret — where did VAV publish his sources? You really praised us — careful, we might get conceited :-) Happy for TeeRay, a well-deserved win. By the way, do you happen to have the full FunTop results? We'd like to know where our demo, our music and Paracels' picture placed. Forgot the main thing — about the graphics. Here's what happened. SAT/XTM planned to make a demo, music was written and all the graphics drawn for him, but at the last moment he dropped it. In his letter he wrote, and I quote: "Well, it seems, feels and sounds like we've successfully buried the Edge Of Sanity project." Although we did everything on our side (gfx, muzak). After that letter we (EI — I didn't go) went to see them (MC/XTM) in Vladimir, and there he again said he wouldn't finish anything. So we distributed all the gfx and muzak — no point letting good work go to waste. And literally a week ago SAT sends a letter saying Edge Of Sanity has been finished at his place for a month already, says he just can't type the text in Word or he'd have released it already. And now it turns out his demo uses Syrus' track "BOOST" — the very one that's in… …our epilogue. The track "popa 2" — that's the one in our epilogue. That's how it is. As for the graphics, I don't know whether he used them — we haven't seen the demo yet. The pictures meant for him were "Edge OF Sanity logo", "triangles", "more" (he saw that one at our place when he visited Kovrov and asked for it :-)) and "Loosing Sanity". So I don't even know what to do — did he use them or not. Try contacting him. Sending you an improver for "5 element" — after the party we found some bugs and inaccuracies. Also sending our works, though only one was made after FT'98 — gfx by Spy. Recently got works from DOXYCON '98, held 15.08.98 in the Czech Republic :-) Well, the works aren't great, but one stood out — the demo "Higher Station" (by 3SC); saw their older work "INSANE" probably, and this is in the same style — cool! Took 1st place there, by the way! Sending everything we have from DOXYCON, though not much. Also sending the demo "Pressure" (by Cyber Punks Unity) — their post-FT work, didn't finish in time. Very soon BUZZ-16 will come out, bigger than issue 15, oh horror %-)! Probably together with OBERON, maybe even earlier — as soon as it's done, I'll send it right away! Sensation! :-) Starting with issue 16, BUZZ will also come out on PC — Digital Brain / EI (PC-Division) will handle it. The shell is already written. ZX and PC versions will come out almost simultaneously, PC ver. maybe a little later. Scanned photos we'll send a bit later — we just can't get them scanned.
